Province of Foggia: Nobiletti could remain president until 2028

An amendment to the ‘Decreto PA’ (DL 144/2026) could allow Giuseppe Nobiletti to remain President of the Province of Foggia until 2028. This scenario depends on Nobiletti being re-elected as Mayor of Vieste in the upcoming spring municipal elections.

The proposed amendment, supported by parliamentary groups from across the political spectrum, aims to align the mandates of provincial presidents and provincial councils. It stipulates that if a council's term ends before the president's, the council's term is extended to match the president. Conversely, if a president's term ends before the council's, the presidency is extended to match the council's term.

The amendment has been cleared by the Joint Parliamentary Commissions (V and VIII) of the Chamber of Deputies and is expected to reach the floor this week. This legislative change addresses the current legal framework regarding the expiration of mandates and the continuity of provincial administration.
