Province of Pisa secures emergency public transport services

The Province of Pisa has intervened to prevent service cuts to local public transport following a failed European tender process. After no economic operators submitted bids for the Valdarno, Val di Cecina, and Extraurbano Pisano lots, the province activated emergency powers to ensure continuity.

Through a presidential decree, the province has granted a direct emergency contract to the current operator, Autolinee Toscane SpA, effective from September 1 to December 31, 2026. This measure aims to protect services for approximately 10,000 daily passengers, including students and commuters, and avoids a projected reduction of over 300,000 kilometers of service per year.

The emergency measure is funded by approximately 900,000 euros from the administration's surplus. The kilometer rate has been set at 2.51592 euros per kilometer, aligned with the regional single lot. Meanwhile, the Valdera area service will transition to RTI Valdera Move starting September 1, 2026.
