Province of Utrecht seeks cyclist feedback on regional routes

The Province of Utrecht is conducting a survey to gather feedback from cyclists regarding existing and future cycling routes between Utrecht and Amersfoort. The initiative aims to improve regional accessibility, environmental health, and safety through the development of high-quality 'doorfietsroutes' (fast cycling routes).

The research focuses on two main areas: the existing 21-kilometer F28 route, which passes through Bilthoven, Den Dolder, and Soestduinen, and a proposed future route connecting Utrecht Science Park to Amersfoort via Soesterberg and Zeist. For the F28, officials are investigating how the route affects travel behavior and whether it encourages a shift from car use to cycling. For the future route, the province is conducting a baseline measurement to identify necessary improvements in safety, path quality, and intersection design.

Developed in collaboration with local municipalities, the province is working on a total of fourteen cycling routes spanning approximately 250 kilometers. Projects proceed once sufficient funding is secured and formal cooperation agreements are signed between the province and the involved municipalities.
