Prudential Hong Kong launches AI Underwriter with Alibaba Cloud

Prudential Hong Kong has launched AI Underwriter, an artificial intelligence-powered solution developed in collaboration with Alibaba Cloud. The tool provides preliminary underwriting guidance to financial consultants via a chatbot at the point of sale within minutes.

The system analyzes customer data, including financial, medical, occupational, and residential profiles, to offer indications on application acceptance, exclusions, or additional information requirements. This replaces a manual process that previously took several days for preliminary reviews.

Prudential Hong Kong stated that the AI tool is intended to support, rather than replace, the professional judgment of human underwriters, who retain final decision-making authority. This launch represents the first phase of a broader roadmap to integrate AI into underwriting, with future plans to expand the service to brokerage and bancassurance channels.
