Prundu Bârgăului municipality sues Romania's Ministry of Education over halted school campus funding
The local council of Prundu Bârgăului has filed a lawsuit against the Romanian Ministry of Education, asking the Bucharest Court of Appeal to annul a decree issued in April that suspended financing for a new school campus. The project, valued at €7.5 million and initially funded through the national PNRR programme, was completed by the contractor to more than 90 % but was left without the final tranche of funds.
Mayor Doru Crișan says the funding cut has no legal basis, leaving the municipality unable to make the final hand‑over and forcing the builder to incur daily penalties. The municipality seeks compensation and the release of the withheld funds to cover the contractor’s outstanding invoices and to avoid further financial strain on the local budget.
