Przemyśl and Ustrzyki Dolne hospitals to undergo planned consolidation

The Podkarpackie Voivodeship Sejmik has passed an intention resolution to consolidate two medical facilities: the St. Padre Pio Provincial Hospital in Przemyśl and the Independent Public Health Care Center in Ustrzyki Dolne. The goal of this merger is to ensure stable and safe access to medical services for local residents and tourists in the Bieszczady region.

The move is driven largely by the critical financial situation of the Ustrzyki Dolne facility, which faces approximately 70 million PLN in debt. Nearly 50 million PLN of this total consists of obligations to non-bank financial institutions that are now fully due, resulting in high interest costs. The remaining 20 million PLN includes public law obligations, such as debts to the Social Insurance Institution, and arrears to suppliers.

To facilitate the process, the Bieszczady County has agreed to cover past losses by taking out a long-term loan to address current liabilities. The Przemyśl hospital, which possesses a more stable revenue structure, is expected to assist in restructuring and reducing debt service costs. A special working group comprising representatives from both hospitals, the county, and the Marshal's Office has been established to manage the consolidation process, which will next involve public consultations and discussions with trade unions.
