PSA levels below 0.2 ng/mL predict prostate cancer survival
A large-scale real-world study published in the journal CANCER suggests that achieving a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) level of less than 0.2 ng/mL within the first nine months of treatment is a powerful indicator of long-term survival for patients with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC).
Researchers analyzed data from 4,890 patients in the United States between 2006 and 2024. The study found that this absolute PSA value may hold greater prognostic significance than the commonly used clinical metric of achieving at least a 90% reduction in PSA levels.
During the study period, 44% of patients reached a PSA level below 0.2 ng/mL within nine months, while 74% achieved a reduction of at least 90% from their baseline. The findings highlight the potential of PSA as a predictive biomarker to guide personalized treatment strategies for mCSPC.
