PSB leadership in Rondônia faces national intervention and legal challenges

The Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) is facing an internal crisis in Rondônia following a decision by its National Executive to intervene in the state directorate. The national directive ordered the dissolution of the state leadership, a move that effectively removes Vinicius Miguel from his position as state president.

Vinicius Miguel has announced plans to challenge the decision in court, labeling the intervention as illegal and abusive. His legal team intends to seek an injunction to suspend the resolution, arguing that the national body cannot unilaterally dismantle a legitimately constituted state leadership without respecting party rules and legal autonomy.

Samuel Costa, the PSB candidate for Governor of Rondônia, has also condemned the move, describing it as a ‘tentativa de golpe’ (attempted coup). Costa stated that the intervention threatens not only his candidacy but also those for the Senate and various legislative positions approved during the state convention. Both Miguel and Costa have indicated they will pursue judicial action to protect the democratic processes and candidacies established by the state party.
