Salvador Illa frames upcoming Spanish elections as a choice for democracy
Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, has characterized the upcoming Spanish general elections on November 29 as a decisive choice between democracy and authoritarianism. Speaking at a PSC event in Girona, Illa argued that Catalonia will play a critical role in determining whether Spain is led by a progressive government under Pedro Sánchez or a right-wing administration involving Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Santiago Abascal.
During the presentation of the PSC candidates for the Girona region, Illa warned leaders of the PP and Vox that Catalan autonomy must not be compromised. He also criticized Junts for what he described as an inability to take a clear stance on democratic values and social rights.
The PSC has finalized its candidate lists for the elections. Marc Lamuà will lead the list for the Congress of Deputies in Girona, while Gael Rodríguez, the former mayor of Portbou, will head the Senate candidacy. The organization also noted a significant increase in youth representation, with 13 members of the Juventudes Socialistas de Catalunya (JSC) included in the Congress lists.
