PSD accuses USR of hypocrisy regarding Marian Neacșu

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has accused the Save Romania Union (USR) of double standards regarding political integrity. The dispute follows USR's criticism of Marian Neacșu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, concerning a 2016 criminal conviction for conflict of interest.

PSD maintains that Neacșu has undergone legal rehabilitation, meaning his criminal record is effectively clear. The party noted that Neacșu held no public office between 2016 and 2019 and that his legal status was known when he was appointed to the Luca Niculescu Cabinet. PSD also pointed out that USR representatives previously voted for his appointment in Parliament.

Expanding the attack, PSD targeted USR leadership, specifically mentioning party leader Dominic Fritz. The social democrats cited a High Court decision regarding an administrative conflict of interest involving Fritz, arguing that USR fails to apply the same integrity standards to its own members as it does to political opponents.
