PSdeG demands transparency from Xunta over Galicia wildfires

The Socialist Party of Galicia (PSdeG) has called on the Xunta de Galicia to release official data regarding the total surface area burned by wildfires this year and the number of municipal firefighting brigades currently operational.

Parliamentarian Carmen Rodríguez Dacosta criticized a lack of transparency, noting that the Consellería do Medio Rural typically only reports fires exceeding 20 hectares, thereby omitting smaller incidents from the official balance. Additionally, the PSdeG raised concerns regarding the regional forest fire prevention plan (Pladiga), citing delays in formalizing municipal brigades and the precarious nature of short-term contracts. The party highlighted a significant decrease in active municipal brigades, noting that the number fell from 263 in 2016 to 112 in 2023.
