PSE launches digital substation pilot in Piaseczno

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) has signed an agreement to implement a digital protection automation system at the Piaseczno substation. This pilot project aims to test the functionality of new digital technology and its compatibility with conventional solutions.

The project, which will be carried out by Zakład Produkcyjny Aparatury Elektrycznej, is expected to last two years. In this digital setup, measurements are converted into data streams and transmitted via fiber optics using standardized methods. This allows for system modifications to be made through software rather than physical rewiring, and facilitates easier diagnostics of devices and connections.

According to PSE, the solution is intended to increase resistance to electromagnetic interference and potentially reduce the time required to build and commission new stations. The digital system will be installed alongside the existing conventional system at the 220 kV switchgear to ensure no disruption to station operations during the testing phase.
