PSG manager Luis Enrique may reintroduce goalkeeper competition
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique may reintroduce competition for the starting goalkeeper position following a difficult start to the season. Matvei Safonov, currently the primary choice, has faced criticism after conceding several goals in recent Ligue 1 matches, including a recent 1-2 home defeat against Monaco.
Lucas Chevalier, the 24-year-old French goalkeeper who joined from LOSC, has been serving as the second choice and has not played official minutes since January. While his technical abilities have not been questioned, reports suggest he previously struggled with the pressure of high-stakes matches.
Luis Enrique is expected to use this period of underperformance to re-establish competition between the two players. Although the manager typically prefers continuity to build player confidence, he maintains a management philosophy centered on merit and internal competition.
