Khvicha Kvaratskhelia named top Ballon d'Or favorite by L'Equipe

French sports daily L'Equipe placed Georgian Paris Saint‑Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the cover of its latest issue as the leading contender for the Ballon d'Or, despite Georgia not qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The 24‑year‑old was highlighted for his pivotal role in PSG’s Champions League triumph and French league title, and for maintaining an intensive individual training programme over the summer while many teammates were at the World Cup. L'Equipe noted that Kvaratskhelia could become the first modern‑era player to win the award without a World Cup appearance, joining a shortlist that also features Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane and others. The Ballon d'Or ceremony is scheduled for late October 2026, organized by France Football, which shares ownership with L'Equipe.
