Costa Rica President Laura Fernández secures high approval and UN candidacy support

Costa Rican President Laura Fernández maintains strong domestic support, with recent polling from OPOL Consultores showing a 72.8% approval rating. This high level of public backing is noted by legal experts as a factor that can facilitate legislative reforms and enhance investor confidence by promoting regulatory stability.

On the international stage, Fernández has formally reiterated her support for Rebeca Grynspan’s candidacy for Secretary-General of the United Nations. Following an informal Security Council consultation where Grynspan received nine favorable votes, Fernández announced plans to engage with other regional leaders to build further diplomatic momentum for the Costa Rican diplomat.

In a broader regional context, a CB Global Data survey indicates that while Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum leads Latin American approval ratings, Fernández also maintains a positive standing with 51% favorability.
