PSOE Canarias proposes climate adaptation plan for public schools

The PSOE Canarias has proposed a motion to local municipalities to urge the Canary Islands Government to implement a multi-year climate adaptation strategy for the archipelago’s 925 public educational centers. The initiative aims to address rising temperatures and their impact on students and staff through a comprehensive ‘Canary Climate Adaptation, Thermal Comfort, and Energy Efficiency Plan’.

Key components of the proposal include creating individualized climate and energy profiles for each school, developing a climate risk map, and establishing a multi-year investment schedule. Additionally, the plan suggests a program for shading and re-naturalizing schoolyards and the progressive replacement of modular classrooms, with priority given to nurseries, special education centers, and vulnerable student populations.
