PSOE challenges hotel project at Abadía del Sacromonte

The Socialist Municipal Group (PSOE) has filed formal objections regarding a project by the Archdiocese of Granada to convert part of the Abadía del Sacromonte into a hotel. Councilman Juanjo Ibáñez argued that the project should not be evaluated in isolation but as part of a broader strategy for the future of the Albaicín and Sacromonte districts.

Ibáñez stated that the debate is not simply whether to allow hotels, but whether a project of this intensity is compatible with the heritage, landscape, residential, and mobility characteristics of the area. While acknowledging that tourism is vital for Granada, the PSOE warned that the city's historic center is accumulating tourism projects without a global debate on the limits and capacity of these neighborhoods. The objections demand a valuation of the cumulative impact of tourism on housing, public services, and local coexistence.
