PSOE defends Spanish pension increases and worker protections

Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) representatives in Cuenca and Granada have defended the central government's policies regarding pension revaluation and minimum wage increases.

In Cuenca, candidate José Manuel López Carrizo highlighted that pensions have seen a cumulative increase of over 20% in recent years due to revaluation linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). He noted that Cuenca, which has 46,548 pensioners, saw a nearly 6% increase in average pensions in September 2026. Carrizo warned against political opposition from the PP and VOX, citing past periods where pension increases were minimal.

In Granada, PSOE Secretary General Pedro Fernández emphasized the sustainability of the public pension system, noting that the pension fund is projected to reach 20 billion euros by the end of the year. He also highlighted the impact of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) increases on more than 40,000 workers in the province, following discussions with union leaders from UGT and CCOO.
