PSOE demands unpaid volcanic ash compensation for La Palma farmers

The Socialist Group (PSOE) in the La Palma Island Council has called on both the Council and the Canary Islands Government to settle outstanding debts owed to the local agricultural sector. The funds are intended to compensate farmers for losses caused by volcanic ash and income reductions following the eruption.

According to spokesperson Borja Perdomo, approximately 9 million euros remain unpaid to more than 4,000 farmers to cover the additional costs incurred from ash damage. Furthermore, compensation for income loss during the 2022-2023 period remains pending for several municipalities. Perdomo noted that only 19% of the calculated ash-related aid has been distributed so far, urging authorities to prioritize these payments to ensure the reconstruction of the agricultural sector.
