Alicante PSPV demands urgent dredging of Las Ovejas ravine

The PSPV-PSOE parliamentary group in Les Corts and the Alicante City Council have submitted a non-legislative proposal demanding that the Generalitat urgently dredge the final section of the Las Ovejas ravine. The initiative aims to restore the watercourse's hydraulic capacity and stop wastewater discharges that currently threaten more than 12,000 residents in the San Gabriel and Gran Vía Sur areas.

According to the PATRICOVA flood risk plan, the ravine is classified at the highest danger level. Technical reports indicate that the accumulation of sediment and sludge has significantly reduced the drainage capacity, which should ideally be 900 m³/s in its final stretch.

The proposal outlines seven specific measures, including an immediate dredging of the section between Calle Paraguay and the sea outlet, the publication of a technical report on the riverbed's status within one month, and the implementation of sanctions for illegal discharges. Local officials have noted that while significant investments were made for conditioning works between 2011 and 2013, the current state of the ravine poses a maximum risk of flooding.
