PSOE leaders address controversies over Ceuta support events
Political tensions have emerged within the PSOE in the Canary Islands following institutional events held in support of Ceuta. In Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, secretary general of the PSOE, criticized Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort for participating in a demonstration. Corujo argued that his presence contributes to “discursos basados en el miedo y la confrontación” (discourses based on fear and confrontation) and urged the presidency to maintain greater “altura institucional” (institutional height).
In La Palma, PSOE spokesperson Borja Perdomo Hernández addressed reports regarding his departure from an institutional act supporting Ceuta. Perdomo denied claims that he abandoned the event, stating he only withdrew when media members began asking the Cabildo president questions of a “carácter estrictamente político” (strictly political nature). He maintained that he remained present for the reading of the official manifesto agreed upon by the three political forces represented in the Cabildo.
