PSP officer José Coelho dies in Leiria hospital

José Coelho, a 57-year-old PSP officer, has died at the Leiria Hospital. Coelho had been hospitalized since late August following an incident in April where he was stabbed in the neck by a 19-year-old at the Marrazes police station in Leiria.

Authorities stated that his death is not directly related to the stabbing incident. Coelho had a history of serious, advanced illnesses that had weakened his health. The individual responsible for the April attack remains in preventive detention. The PSP has communicated the death to the Public Ministry.
