PSP reports increase in school occurrences for 2025/26 academic year

The Public Security Police (PSP) reported an increase in occurrences within schools during the 2025/26 academic year. According to the Safe School Program (PES) report, there were 4,075 total occurrences, representing a 4.6% increase from the previous year. Of these, 2,898 were criminal in nature and 1,177 were non-criminal.

Criminal occurrences have remained above the ten-year average since the 2023/24 academic year. The majority of these incidents—approximately 68.7% of criminal and 68.6% of non-criminal occurrences—took place inside school premises, while the remainder occurred outside, including during commutes between home and school.

In response, the PSP has intensified its prevention and awareness efforts. During the 2025/26 period, the program conducted 11,738 awareness actions involving 652,782 participants. Additionally, officers made 92,945 individual criminal prevention contacts, a 12.2% increase from the prior year. These initiatives focus on issues such as bullying, cyberbullying, road safety, additive behaviors, and domestic violence.
