PSTAI issues medal ultimatum to Philippine sepak takraw team
The Pilipinas Sepak Takraw Association Inc. (PSTAI) has issued an ultimatum to the Philippine national sepak takraw team ahead of the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. PSTAI President Karen Tanchanco-Caballero revealed that athletes have agreed to a courtesy resignation if they fail to secure a medal during the tournament.
Caballero stated that the requirement is a matter of fairness to Filipino taxpayers who fund the athletes' allowances and support. She emphasized that the association expects top-tier performance given the long-term support provided to the squad.
Despite the high pressure, the PSTAI expressed confidence in the team's readiness. This optimism follows recent successes, including a silver medal in the men’s regu and a bronze in the women’s quadrant at the ISTAF World Sepaktakraw Championship in Bangkok, as well as podium finishes at the previous Hangzhou Asian Games.
