AZ Alkmaar clinches Johan Cruyff Shield with 4-0 win over PSV

AZ Alkmaar defeated PSV Eindhoven 4‑0 at the Philips Stadion to capture the 2026 Johan Cruyff Shield, their second triumph in the competition. PSV were reduced to ten men in the ninth minute when midfielder Joey Veerman received a direct red card after a high foot struck AZ forward Mexx Meerdink’s head; the decision was confirmed after a VAR review. AZ took advantage of the numerical edge, with Meerdink opening the scoring in the 25th minute, followed by Weslley Patati (51'), Elijah Dijkstra (58') and Ro‑Zangelo Daal converting a penalty (66'). Goalkeeper Jari De Busser made key saves for AZ, while PSV’s attempts were limited by the early dismissal. The victory gives AZ a strong start to the Dutch season and adds a second Johan Cruyff Shield to the club’s history.
