Psychiatrist Dr. Veselin Gereg links Plovdiv teen violence to home abuse

In an interview for the Telegrapht Podcast, psychiatrist Dr. Veselin Gereg said that children between ages 12 and 16 can develop psychopathic traits, especially when they witness verbal or physical domestic violence. He referred to a group of teenagers from Plovdiv who were accused of killing 37‑year‑old Georgi Kuzev, explaining that the youths’ aggression stems from a crisis of authority and influence from marginal peers.

Gereg noted that these teens document every violent act online to seek approval, describing a “mini‑hiper” movement of rebellious behavior. He warned that similar psychopathic tendencies can appear in police and army personnel, who are attracted to adrenaline and access to weapons, and called for early psychological intervention. The psychiatrist concluded that law enforcement and societal measures are the only effective deterrents to such unchecked aggression.
