Experts urge collaborative approach to prevent school violence and bullying

Psychologists and educators are highlighting the importance of identifying early warning signs to prevent school-based violence and bullying. Experts emphasize that behavioral changes should be viewed as a holistic pattern rather than isolated incidents. Key indicators include sudden drops in academic performance, social withdrawal, intense outbursts of anger, and threatening language such as “I will settle the score” or “I can’t take this anymore.”

To effectively mitigate these risks, specialists advocate for a collaborative approach involving teachers, families, school administrations, and mental health professionals. Relying solely on disciplinary measures or security hardware like cameras and metal detectors is deemed insufficient. Instead, addressing the underlying psychological needs—such as a sense of belonging, value, and emotional regulation—is critical.

Additionally, experts note that factors like digital media exposure, exam pressure, and family dynamics play significant roles in student aggression. For younger children, outbursts often stem from developmental struggles with impulse control, while adolescents may experience heightened emotions due to neurological changes and social pressures. Addressing peer bullying also requires families to look inward and recognize that aggressive behavior in children can often be a cry for attention or a reflection of unmet emotional needs at home.
