Health and psychological insights on eating habits and social perception
Various health and psychological factors contribute to dietary habits and mental well-being. Mindful eating is an approach that encourages full awareness of the eating process, including flavors, textures, and hunger signals, to help distinguish physical hunger from emotional eating and prevent overconsumption.
Regarding physical health, Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin noted that high-calorie snacks like crackers (kerupuk) can contribute significantly to weight gain. He pointed out that consuming ten crackers can equal approximately 650 calories, which is comparable to a nutritious meal of rice, chicken, and vegetables but lacks satiety and nutritional variety. Additionally, eating close to bedtime can lead to abdominal fat, as late-night consumption disrupts circadian rhythms and prevents the body from focusing on repair processes during sleep.
Psychologically, some individuals experience a tendency to assume others are angry with them after making mistakes. This behavior can be linked to past experiences where mistakes were met with harsh punishment, leading to a learned association between errors and social rejection.
