Psychological challenges of relaxing during vacations

Many individuals struggle to disconnect from work even during vacations. After months of high-intensity work routines, the brain can become accustomed to constant tasks and responsibilities, making it difficult to switch to a state of rest. This often results in the first days of holiday being paradoxically stressful, characterized by restlessness or sudden, intense fatigue as the body finally acknowledges suppressed exhaustion.

Stress can also stem from the planning process itself, where the pressure to create a perfect itinerary turns a holiday into another demanding project. High expectations and unforeseen issues, such as bad weather, can lead to disappointment. Furthermore, social media contributes to this tension by presenting idealized versions of travel, causing people to feel their own experiences are inadequate compared to the curated perfection seen online.
