Psychological challenges of setting social boundaries during summer
Increased social activity during the summer often presents challenges regarding personal boundaries and the ability to decline social invitations. Many individuals struggle to say no to travel plans or family events to avoid offending others or facing uncomfortable conversations.
María del Carmen Jiménez, a Social Work professor at the Universidad Internacional de la Rioja and relationship expert, notes that people often accept unwanted plans due to fear of isolation, fear of looking bad, or the desire to avoid disappointing others. Jiménez suggests that accepting plans that are undesirable can be self-damaging and dishonest, highlighting the importance of assertiveness in human relationships.
