Turkey launches widespread cancer awareness campaigns

Various regions across Turkey are conducting extensive health awareness programs to combat cancer, with a primary focus on breast cancer during October and lung cancer during November.

In Trabzon, Çorum, Bursa, and Ünye, local health authorities and organizations have organized seminars, information stands, and social events. These initiatives emphasize the critical role of early diagnosis, self-examination, and regular screenings, such as mammographies for women aged 40 to 69. In Diyarbakır, health teams have established information points in shopping centers, schools, and rural villages to promote free national screening services.

In İzmir, the Metropolitan Municipality is launching a month-long educational campaign across 30 districts specifically targeting lung cancer awareness. These sessions will cover symptoms, diagnostic methods, and ways to avoid carcinogens.

Beyond clinical awareness, experts are highlighting the importance of holistic care. In Sivas, medical professionals are stressing the necessity of physiotherapy and rehabilitation to manage side effects like lymphedema. In Ankara, psychologists are addressing the emotional burden of cancer, advising families to avoid placing undue pressure on patients to remain constantly positive.
