Psychological studies have identified distinct personality traits among individuals who prefer cats over dogs. Research led by psychologist Samuel D. Gosling at the University of Texas at Austin, involving over 4,500 participants, suggests that cat lovers tend to be more introverted, more open to new experiences, and slightly more prone to neuroticism compared to dog lovers, who often score higher in extroversion and conscientiousness.

Additionally, research from Carroll University involving approximately 600 students indicated that cat enthusiasts often achieve higher scores on intelligence tests, particularly those measuring abstract thinking. Researchers suggest these trends may be linked to a combination of curiosity and intellectual hobbies, though they note these are average tendencies rather than absolute labels.
