Psychologist Emine Fener urges parents to curb children's summer screen time
Psychologist Emine Fener warned that uncontrolled screen use during the summer holidays can impair children’s attention span, emotional regulation, sleep patterns and social relationships. She emphasized that a total ban is unnecessary, but age‑appropriate limits and balanced habits are essential.
Fener recommended that families set clear boundaries, such as ending all screen use by 22:00 each night, establishing a regular wake‑up time around 09:00, and encouraging outdoor play, movement, and quality time together. She urged parents to replace excessive screen hours with games, conversation, and nature exploration to support emotional, social and learning development.
The advice targets the final month of the school break, suggesting parents help children readjust to school routines, schedule homework assistance, and monitor screen duration throughout the day.
