Psychologist identifies traits linked to romantic AI relationships

Psychologist and sexologist Igor Kan has identified specific personality traits and circumstances that increase the likelihood of individuals forming romantic relationships with artificial intelligence. According to Kan, some highly intelligent and creative individuals may prefer emotional and intellectual connections established solely through text or voice over traditional interactions.

Certain groups are more prone to seeking companionship in AI, including those with severe social anxiety, fear of rejection, perfectionist tendencies, or past traumatic personal experiences. Introverts may find comfort in the predictability and control of AI interactions, which offer a space free from the risk of judgment, conflict, or unpredictable human reactions.

While some users recognize they are interacting with a digital algorithm, they may still attribute human qualities to the AI, creating an illusion of closeness and intimacy. Kan notes that while this can be an adaptive response to external challenges or the absence of a partner, it can also lead to emotional dependency that hinders the development of real-world relationships.
