Psychologist Pilar Sordo analyzes the impact of language on emotional stability

Chilean psychologist and author Pilar Sordo has analyzed how the evolution of social bonds and the impoverishment of language affect emotional stability. During a conversation with José del Rio, Sordo noted that individuals are increasingly using less vocabulary, a phenomenon that reduces the ability to express internal emotions. She highlighted that substituting complex language with emoticons and brief messages can lead to superficial connections and impact mental health.

Sordo also addressed the decline in patience during social interactions, noting that both the speaker's difficulty in expressing feelings and the listener's lack of patience prevent genuine connection. This trend often turns meaningful dialogue into intermittent monologues rather than transformative exchanges.

Furthermore, Sordo emphasized the importance of internal dialogue, stating that ‘how you speak to yourself defines your self-esteem and your view of the world.’ Her research suggests that self-perception is a fundamental tool for self-knowledge and shapes how individuals approach grief, life purpose, and their perception of society.
