Psychologist Tülinay Seçkin warns on children's summer screen time
Psychologist Tülinay Seçkin of Memorial Diyarbakır Hospital said that unchecked screen use during the summer holidays can hurt children’s cognitive, physical, social and academic development. She noted that long periods in front of tablets, phones, televisions or computers may reduce attention spans, disrupt sleep, limit physical activity and weaken face‑to‑face interaction.
Seçkin recommended age‑appropriate daily limits – about 30 minutes for preschoolers, 45‑60 minutes for primary‑school children and roughly two hours for secondary‑school students – and urged parents to cut screen time gradually in the last two weeks of vacation. She also stressed keeping regular sleep‑wake schedules and replacing screen time with outdoor play, reading, arts and family activities to ease the transition back to school.
