Psychologists urge parental support amid rising AI use by children
Psychologists are highlighting the importance of parental involvement in navigating the psychological and digital challenges facing children today. Experts emphasize that as artificial intelligence becomes a common tool for children aged 10 to 16—used for homework, information, and even emotional advice—parents must teach digital privacy and monitor why children turn to AI for support.
Clinical psychologist Pritta Tyas Mangestuti advises parents to serve as a safe space for communication so children do not rely solely on AI for emotional expression. She notes that avoiding judgmental reactions is crucial for maintaining open dialogue. Similarly, experts in Turkey stress the need for healthy communication to address behavioral issues and social pressures, noting that children's emotional well-being is deeply tied to their family environment and ability to share experiences without fear of judgment.
