Pszczyna region begins major road and flood protection upgrades

Major infrastructure projects are underway in the Pszczyna region to improve local transport and flood safety.

Construction has begun on the reconstruction of a 2.4-kilometer section of Pszczyńska Street, stretching from Kopalniana Street to Oświęcimska Street. The project, valued at 10.2 million PLN, includes sewage work, road stabilization, new bituminous layers, and the construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths. Work on Powstańców Street is currently being conducted under shuttle traffic. The project is funded by the Pszczyna County and the Miedźna Commune, with 5 million PLN provided by the Government Road Development Fund. Completion is expected by October 2027.

Simultaneously, the Łąka reservoir on the Pszczynka River is undergoing its largest modernization in 40 years. Following its critical role in managing an 11 million cubic meter water surge in September 2024, the first phase of repairs, costing 8.4 million PLN, is focused on overflow and discharge devices. This initial stage is scheduled for completion by November 2026. Wody Polskie plans to invest an additional 50 million PLN between 2027 and 2028 for further works, including the reconstruction of the dam's drainage slope and the development of a flood polder in Wisła Wielka.
