PT Bentang Persada Internusa director claims ignorance of incomplete SNI certification

During a trial at the Surabaya District Court, Santoso Utomo Tjioe, President Director of PT Bentang Persada Internusa (BPI), testified that he was unaware that certain wire rope products purchased from a supplier lacked complete Indonesian National Standard (SNI) documentation.

Santoso stated he only learned of the incomplete certification during investigations by the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri). A witness from Bareskrim, Muhammad Fauzi, confirmed that the defendant was cooperative during the investigation. Fauzi noted that while most products sold by PT BPI met SNI requirements, the specific items lacking certification were sourced from PT Surya Sentra Gemilang Sentosa (SSGS).

Defense counsel Edward Raimond argued that the company acted as a distributor for DONGWA brand products under its own trademark, UNISTRAND, without altering technical specifications. The defense maintains that there was no intent to violate regulations and emphasized that the element of intent must be proven in court.
