PT Freeport Indonesia expands social investment in Papua

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) is expanding its social investment programs in Papua, focusing on education, health, and local economic development. President Director Tony Wenas stated that despite production recovery challenges following a 2025 landslide at the Grasberg Block Cave, the company remains committed to its national economic contributions and regional welfare.

In the education sector, PTFI manages the Sekolah Asrama Taruna Papua (SATP), which provides high-standard nutritional support to students. The program includes five daily meals—breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks—prepared in an on-site kitchen to ensure freshness and quality control. The school also utilizes a specialized curriculum featuring native English speakers from the United States.

Furthermore, PTFI is coordinating with local governments in Mimika and Papua Tengah to enhance infrastructure, SMEs, and healthcare through free medical access programs. The company aims to invest USD 100 million annually in local programs through 2041, targeting improved human development indices and the empowerment of indigenous communities.
