PT KAI reports high passenger occupancy during Maulid Nabi holiday
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported a significant surge in passenger numbers during the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW long holiday period from August 21 to August 25, 2026.
In the Daop 2 Bandung region, 76,286 passengers utilized long-distance trains, with occupancy rates reaching 125.64 percent of total capacity. The highest demand was seen on Saturday, August 22, when occupancy hit 140.49 percent. Popular routes included the Sangkuriang (235.77 percent occupancy) and Malabar (222.22 percent occupancy) trains. Key destinations included Gambir, Yogyakarta, Pasar Senen, Kutoarjo, and Bekasi.
In the Daop 1 Jakarta region, the holiday period saw a peak in return travel on Tuesday, August 25, with 37,964 passengers arriving at various stations. This marked a shift in mobility patterns from departures at the start of the holiday to arrivals in Jakarta toward the end. Gambir Station recorded the highest arrival volume with 13,356 passengers, followed by Pasar Senen with 12,936.
