PT Kereta Api Indonesia advances decarbonization and fleet modernization

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is advancing its decarbonization roadmap through the implementation of B50 biodiesel. The transition from B35 to B50, which contains 50 percent plant-based biodiesel, is expected to contribute approximately 133,676 tons of CO2e in emission reductions. This represents about 80 percent of KAI's total decarbonization target of 166,873 tons of CO2e. The rollout of B50 for diesel locomotives and equipment began gradually on July 1, 2026.

In terms of passenger mobility, KAI Commuter reported transporting over 400 million passengers nationwide throughout 2025, a 7 percent increase from the previous year. This growth includes 349.3 million users of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line. To support this demand, 11 new train sets produced by CRRC Sifang, totaling 132 carriages, have been phased into operation on the Bogor and Cikarang lines since June 2025. These new fleets feature improved cooling systems, more spacious interiors, updated safety technology, and enhanced accessibility for the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.
