PT Kereta Api Indonesia reports growth in international tourists and holiday travelers
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has reported significant passenger activity across different segments of its operations in 2026. During the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW holiday period from August 21 to 25, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya projected approximately 162,359 passengers. Data indicated a high volume of travelers, with Surabaya Pasar Turi and Surabaya Gubeng serving as the busiest stations.
On a broader scale, KAI recorded 405,814 international tourist passengers between January and July 2026, marking a 3.86 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Most international trips occurred on the island of Java, connecting major cities and tourist attractions. In July 2026 alone, international passenger numbers reached 96,940, an 8.28 percent increase from July 2025. Yogyakarta and Gambir were among the top stations for foreign tourist departures.
