PT Kereta Api Indonesia targets growth through asset optimization and new housing project
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is pursuing a strategic transformation to diversify its revenue and expand its economic contribution. During the SBM ITB Industrial Summit 2026, KAI CEO Bobby Rasyidin outlined four growth engines: operational assets, tangible assets, capability-based assets, and technology assets. Currently, 94 percent of KAI's revenue is derived from transportation, with non-farebox business contributing approximately 6 percent. The company aims to optimize its 327.8 million square meters of railway land through Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), property management, digital services, and manufacturing.
In line with asset optimization, KAI is scheduled to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new low-income housing (MBR) project in Manggarai, Jakarta, on August 21, 2026. The project will consist of eight towers built on approximately 2.2 hectares of land. The development is designed to provide various housing sizes for low-income residents. Minister of Housing and Residential Areas Maruarar Sirait noted that the project is ready for immediate construction.
