Brazil's PT respects TSE poll suspension and stresses national alliance in Minas Gerais
PT national president Edinho Silva said the party will respect Justice Minister Kassio Nunes Marques’ decision to suspend the AtlasIntel poll on the 2026 presidential race after the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral found methodological flaws that could bias respondents. The poll had shown President Luiz Inácio Lula with a seven‑point lead over Flávio Bolsonaro. The TSE ordered a temporary ban on the poll’s dissemination pending a plenary review.
Silva also explained that the PT’s strategy in Minas Gerais must be coordinated with the party’s national plan to secure Lula’s re‑election in 2026. While the state party passed a resolution supporting an independent candidacy, he emphasized that alliance‑building with partner parties remains the priority and that no single candidate is currently deemed “most viable.” The remarks come after senator Rodrigo Pacheco withdrew from the Minas Gerais gubernatorial race, opening space for internal debate.
