PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals implements agricultural and water recycling projects

PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) is implementing several sustainability and community development initiatives in North Halmahera, Maluku Utara.

In Kao Barat, the company is supporting national food security through the Modern Advanced Agricultural System (PM-AAS) program. This initiative involves providing agricultural production tools to the Rizki Tani group to develop 10 hectares of rice fields. The program utilizes mechanization and modern cultivation technologies, such as the Direct Seed Planting (Tabela) system, to increase productivity and reduce reliance on manual labor. The project aims for a yield of up to 10 tons of grain per hectare and is being monitored in collaboration with the Maluku Utara Center for Agricultural Modernization Application (BRMP).

Additionally, at the Gosowong Gold Mine, NHM is advancing the DST Water Recovery & Recycling Project. This project aims to optimize water management and reduce the mine's dependence on river water for its processing needs, which currently require approximately 5,400 cubic meters per day. The company targets a 20–30 percent efficiency increase, potentially saving between 1,680 and 1,920 cubic meters of water per day through improved recycling systems.
