PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals strengthens forest fire mitigation efforts
PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) is strengthening its operational readiness to combat forest and land fires (karhutla) as the dry season approaches. The company has implemented a structured response system involving early detection, cross-party coordination, and the establishment of fire breaks and buffer zones to protect its mining operations and the surrounding environment.
To support regional disaster management, NHM has donated eight IBC water tanks to the North Halmahera Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). This initiative aims to bolster the local government's capacity to respond to fires, which have recently affected 508.6 hectares across 16 districts and 69 villages. The portable water supply stations are intended to assist firefighting teams in high-risk areas such as Kao and Tobelo.
