PT official Antonio Moreira dies after shooting attack in Pará

Antonio Moreira, known as “Toizim do PT,” died in a Belém hospital on Wednesday after spending 43 days in intensive care. Moreira was the municipal president of the Workers' Party (PT) in Tailândia, Pará.

The fatal shooting occurred on September 21 at Moreira’s office on Avenida Fortaleza. According to police investigations, two men on a motorcycle arrived at the location, and a passenger fired at least five shots at the victim, hitting him in the head and arm before fleeing.

Following the attack, the Civil Police launched Operation Marco Divisória, which resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the seizure of firearms. While investigations into the specific motivation and dynamics of the crime continue, the PT Pará branch has issued a note of mourning for the leader, who had served as municipal president since 2019.
