PT President Edinho Silva faces criticism over campaign management and ammunition bill

Edinho Silva, the national president of the Workers' Party (PT), has drawn criticism from within his own party following the first round of the 2026 presidential election. Internal dissatisfaction stems from his role as the general coordinator for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s campaign, with members citing centralized decision-making and difficulties integrating various campaign fronts. In response to these pressures, campaign coordination has been expanded to include leaders such as Camilo Santana, Rafael Fonteles, and Rui Costa.

Separately, Silva has publicly criticized a legislative proposal, Project of Law 3.723/2019, which seeks to remove identification requirements from ammunition. Silva argued that eliminating the ability to track the origin of ammunition benefits organized crime, militias, and criminal factions. The bill, which was originally presented during the Jair Bolsonaro administration and has seen modifications in the Chamber of Deputies, is currently proceeding through the Senate.
