PT Semen Baturaja faces calls for tighter oversight after sanctions lifted

Chusnunia Halim, Vice Chair of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has called on the Ministry of Industry to tighten supervision of PT Semen Baturaja. This request follows the lifting of administrative sanctions previously imposed due to dust pollution complaints from local residents.

Halim emphasized that the removal of sanctions should not lead to a relaxation of environmental control efforts. Instead, she stated it should serve as a momentum for the company to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable industry by balancing economic growth with environmental preservation and social responsibility. She noted that industrial success must be measured by more than just profit, specifically requiring companies to manage waste, reduce emissions, and ensure the well-being of surrounding communities.
